Find out the secrets to hip hop collective Doomtree's longevity.

The final Morning Tabs of the week feature some Rethink Music podcasts, a case study of Minneapolis’s Doomtree collective, a milestone for Soundcloud, and Indie Ambassador’s primer on copyright.

  • Berklee and MIDEM’s Rethink Music conference will take place in Boston this April, and there will be serious brainpower involved. We somehow failed to note that they have a Tumblr, and they have started putting on podcasts with the Berkman Center at Harvard Law School. Big thanks to Eric Jensen for noting this!
  • If you’ve ever wondered what contributes to the success and endurance of certain music collectives, we recommend Derek Miller’s case study of Doomtree, a hip hop collective based in Minneapolis. Miller’s another one of those underrated voices in this space, so add him to your readers.
  • Soundcloud has recently passed the three million registered users mark. And now that they’ve added the desktop recording and sharing applications to their arsenal, look for them to grow bigger and bigger as they start coming into wider use.
  • Finally, Indie Ambassador’s always-helpful trueDIY series offers a helpful primer on copyright. Ten big questions, ten good answers.
